Why Storm Doors Are a Necessity in Texas
When you live in Texas, you know the weather can be unpredictable. One day, it’s sunny and hot; the next, it can be cloudy or cool, or a severe storm could be brewing. That’s where storm doors come into play. A good storm door protects against the elements, whether wind, rain, or intense sunlight. Aside from protection, these doors also offer convenient ventilation, allowing fresh air to enter your home while keeping bugs out. Plus, with glass and screen panels, you can enjoy natural light without compromising privacy.
Storm doors can be a great addition to any Texas home. They protect your main entry door, improve ventilation, increase natural light, and enhance curb appeal. But, like any other home feature, they need proper care and maintenance to function effectively. That’s where American Eagle Builders comes in – we provide the best storm doors and services to keep them in top-notch condition.
Types of Storm Doors
Before diving into the specifics, it’s essential to understand the different types of storm doors available. The most common types are full-view storm doors, retractable screen storm doors, and select full-view storm doors.
FULL VIEW STORM DOORS
Full View Storm Doors are characterized by a full-length glass panel that allows maximum light inside a home. They also come with interchangeable screen panels for seasonal ventilation and insect protection.
On the other hand, Retractable Screen Storm Doors have a screen that can easily be rolled up and down, offering more flexibility.
Meanwhile, Select Full View Storm Doors come with a bonus—they include both glass and screen panels that can be changed as needed.
The best and most beautiful storm doors offer full-glass doors featuring the best decorative glass designs and the widest selection of color options to give your home a personalized look. Full glass doors let in the most natural light with the most accessible ventilation options. Enjoy the breeze and enhanced curb appeal with an unobstructed view.
A traditional security door can add extra protection to your home. These doors offer enhanced home protection with reversible ventilation options and maintenance-free construction.
Value with a view, the performance retractable screen storm door lets in natural light and instantly converts your storm door to a screen door for easy ventilation.
Select Full View Storm Doors
Full-view storm doors and select full-view storm doors serve the same primary purpose: they provide a full view of the outside while protecting your home from the elements. However, there are subtle differences between the two.
On the other hand, select full-view storm doors often come with additional features or customization options that set them apart from standard full-view doors. For example, they might include a retractable screen that can be pulled down when needed rather than physically changing the glass pane for a screen. Or they could offer a wider variety of decorative frame designs, glass styles (like beveled or stained glass), or hardware finishes to match the aesthetics of your home.
Full-view storm doors are designed with a single large pane of glass that spans the entire door. This design maximizes the light entering your home and provides an unobstructed view of the outdoors. Some full-view storm doors have an interchangeable screen that can replace the glass pane during warmer months to allow ventilation.
In essence, select full-view storm doors to provide all the benefits of standard full-view doors but with additional features or customization options that allow homeowners to better tailor the door to their needs and tastes.

Features and Benefits:
You have tempered safety glasses to protect your friends and family from serious injury.
Extra-heavy corner gussets for added strength to help keep your storm door square and true. It will only sag after a few years of use.
Tubular Mainframe construction for added strength and stability.
Five separate Oilite hinges to withstand heavy everyday use.
Adjustable double sweep at the bottom of every storm door for a positive wind seal.
Fully weather-stripped with high-density polyester pile to reduce air and dust infiltration.
Heavy-duty adjustable pneumatic closer for effortless, smooth operation.
Deadbolt lock on your storm door for added security.
Operating Storm Doors
A Retractable Screen Storm Door is designed with the screen rolled up in a cassette at the top of the door. When ventilation is desired, the screen can be lowered into place. The advantage is that the screen is hidden when not in use, which can help protect it from damage and give the door a cleaner look since it functions as a full-view glass door when the screen is retracted.
Signs Your Storm Door Needs Repair
Your storm door is the first defense against the unpredictable Texas weather. But how do you know when it’s time for a repair? Some signs to look out for include complex operation, warped or cracked glass, broken door closers, faulty latches, and damaged weather stripping. A door that doesn’t close smoothly or latch properly could be letting in drafts and insects, defeating the purpose of having a storm door.
Signs Your Storm Door Needs a Full Replacement
Sometimes, a simple repair might not be enough to salvage your storm door. Here are some signs that you may need a complete replacement:
-
Old age: If your storm door is several years old and has been subject to regular wear and tear, it might be time for a replacement.
-
Extensive damage: Major damage, such as large cracks or warps in the door frame, glass, or screen, might require a total replacement.
-
High energy bills: An inefficient storm door can let drafts in, making your HVAC system work harder leading to higher energy bills.

TESTIMONIALS
What Our Customers Say
My husband & I had American Eagle Builders come out for estimates on a patio cover, attic insulation and a new sliding glass door. The nice lady said the owner would come out himself to do the estimates...That didn't happen, but the guy they sent was professional & gave a decent price on the door & insulation. He said someone would call & give the estimate for the patio cover per his measurements. The guys who put the insulation in were on time & did a good job. I was concerned a bit though that they only "blow insulation" and don't prep or seal anything in the attic, which I thought was the 1st step of attic insulation. They did put safety barriers around all the recessed lighting though)... The next job was the sliding glass door, which had been delayed due to the TX freeze. The two guys show up on time, professional & install the door just fine & it looks nice. We found very shortly afterwards there was an issue with it sliding properly & the screen not locking & they have since sent someone out to fix that. I can now say the door looks & works great! Also, I can definitely feel the difference in temperature comfort within the house, & look forward to the energy savings.
AEB offered me Simonton windows which was the brand I wanted. Dennis came out to give me and my wife the usual window demonstration, but I wound up liking him better than the other guys since he didn't bury us in demonstrations that we already knew. Just gave us some pictures and some overall energy savings that we would get. Overall, we really liked him and at the end of the presentation, he gave me a good offer so we signed the contract right there.

American Eagle Builders are very professional and very tidy. They installed 19 windows and 2 patio doors over the course of two days and it was a very pain free experience. These energy efficient windows and doors are already starting to show a retun on investment with our utility bill savings. We've used 100Kw less electricity this week than the previous two weeks before installation and it's actually 10° hotter this week! These windows and doors are the best investment we have made for our home to date and they also give the house more curb appeal.

I was so concerned about how the new windows were going to replace the old ones. But when the men got here, they made me feel assured that everything was going to work out. And it did, they were great, covered everything and cleaned it all up. Then they even put my things back on the shelves. I never expected that. So don't worry they know what they're doing and do a great job. You will be happy with their work. To top it off they were friendly and respectful.

American Eagle Builders did a fantastic job on our patio. From the concrete, the patio cover and the sliding patio door, their attention to details and professionalism were top notch. Their building staff can be trusted to effectively communicate with you throughout the phases and to do the job right the first time without cutting corners.
